Basil

Botanical Name: Ocimum Basilicum
Plant/Part: Herb/ Flowering tops and leaves.
Country of Origin: Southern France, North Africa, India, Seychelles, and Madagascar.

Extraction: Distillation.
Colour: Pale green
Aroma: Sweet, slightly spicy, with faint balsamic, woody undertone.
History/Myth: From the Greek basilicos, meaning "royal".
Caution: Do not use during pregnancy: it may influence the regulation of mentruation. Generally refreshing but can be somewhat stupefying if overdone. May irritate sensitive skin.
Wellbeing: Somewhat refreshing, improving stamina; also soothing.

The Body" Offers temporary relief from headaches and migraine. Warms the joints, easing stiffness and swelling. Useful for gout, helping to reduce inflammation of the joints, increasing mobility. Offers relief for digestive discomfort such as nausea and stomach cramps.
The Skin: Refreshing for the skin. Its antiseptic qualities are useful for general skin irritations, acne, cuts, and insect bites.
Blends Well With: Bergamot, clary sage, geranium, lavender, marjoram, neroli, rosemary sandalwood.
