Botanical Name: Salvia sclarea.
Plant/Part: Herb/flowering tops and foliage.
Country of Origin: Syria, Morocco, Italy, France, Russia.
Extraction: Distillation.
Colour: Clear.
Aroma: Sweet, slightly heavy and herbaceous. Hints of nuts.
History/Myth: Sclarea is from the Greek skeria, meaning hardness clarus is from the Latin clear.
Caution: Mildly sedative. Should be avoided before driving any distance or when consuming alcohol. Excessive amounts can cause headaches. Avoid during Pregnancy
Wellbeing: Calming and soothing, encouraging a feeling of wellbeing, which can be helpful during convalescence and useful when a sense of perspective is needed.
Body: Helps ease the discomfort associated with menstrual and premenstrual symptoms; may also be helpful dealing with menopause. Useful for easing more general muscular spasms and cramps, joint stiffness and swelling. May ease bronchial congestion. May relieve nagging headaches and migraines.
Skin: Useful for puffy skin. May reduce dandruff.
Blends Well with: Bergamot, cypress, frankinsense, geranium, grapefruit, jasmine, juiper, lavender, lemon, lavender, orange, sandalwood.
